We take the initiative with eco issues

As an organisation we are committed to respecting and protecting the environment at both local and global levels. To ensure that this ideology is seen through (and not just abstract mission statement) we have now appointed Dave Lister as our ‘environmental improvement project manager’.
Dave’s first job will be managing our application for two ISO awards: the ISO 9001 for quality management standards and the ISO 14001 for environmental standards. Although several months of hard work await, at the end we should be much more energy and waste aware, with the ability to take more effective action. In the meantime, we’ve fulfilled some immediate ideas such as timed energy-saving lighting and also appointed a new refuse collection service (one which offers much improved recycling performance).
On a lighter note, the office has received a much needed boost of greenness in the shape of various desk and floor plants. We also have two tree saplings being nurtured in pots – one oak and one silver birch, which will eventually be planted in our grounds.
Finally, you may have heard of the Cycle To Work scheme (if not, check it out here). Essentially, it allows you to hire a top quality bike at a discounted, tax-saving rate, with a possibility to buy at the end of the lease. The tax breaks are beneficial for both employer and employees (aside from the obvious physical benefit and much reduced travel costs). We hope to be wheeling out the first bike in the very near future – watch this space for further updates.
