Did you catch BBC coverage of the Great North Run yesterday? If you did you may have seen model and experienced charity runner Nell McAndrew making her way around the course in an impressive 1 hour 30 minutes. The vest she was wearing was designed and supplied by Creative Emporium to support Nell’s run on behalf of Bupa whose chosen charity for 2010 was the Alzheimer’s Society. We were able to design and produce the vest in under 24 hours to ensure it was ready for the big day.

The charity was of particular importance to Nell after her grandad was diagnosed with the disease. Nell, who has run several half and full marathons said “I’m proud to be leading Bupa’s nominated charity in the Great North Run. Its the biggest run of its kind in the world and Alzheimer’s Society is a fantastic cause to run for. My grandad, Sam, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and prescribed the drug Aricept, which seemed to maintain his quality of life. Sadly, he died unexpectedly in March this year, which has been a huge blow to me as we were very close and shared the same birthday. I know he was always proud of me and would have been proud of me running the Bupa Great North Run again this year. All the money raised for Alzheimer’s Society from the Bupa Great Run Series will go towards supporting people with dementia and their carers, and funding research to find a cure in the future”.
